PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Easily the most entertaining play of Thursday's USF-Rutgers game was Tyrone McKenzie's blocked field goal and subsequent laterals by two Bulls.

McKenzie blocked Jeremy Ito's 48-yard field goal attempt. USF CB Mike Jenkins tried to pick up the ball, but he knocked it forward about 10 yards. McKenzie then scooped it up and knocked the ball forward 15 yards. From there, CB Trae Williams returned it 25 yards for an apparent touchdown.

Officials reviewed the play and called McKenzie for a 5-yard illegal forward pass penalty at the Rutgers 39, so the Bulls took over at the 44.

On the subsequent drive, the Bulls converted a second-and-31, but Delbert Alvarado was wide left on a 45-yard field goal.

CENTURY MAN: Rutgers junior RB Ray Rice rushed for 181 yards, his third 100-yard game against USF.

The Bulls had not allowed a 100-yard rusher since Rice ran for 202 yards at USF last season, a span of 14 consecutive games. Rice has rushed for 541 yards against USF, the most by a Bulls opponent.

MURPHY SUSPENDED: USF sophomore DB Jerome Murphy, the Bulls' only player from New Jersey, was suspended for the first half for missing a team meal Thursday, assistant AD Chris Freet said.

Murphy is USF's starting nickel back and leads the Bulls in kickoff returns with a 27 yard average.

He returned the second-half kickoff 26 yards.

MOFFITT, SELVIE MAKE CUTS: South Florida senior LB Ben Moffitt made the cut of the 10 semifinalists for the Butkus Award, signifying the nation's best college linebacker, and sophomore DE George Selvie made the 12 semifinalists for the Lombardi Award, given to the college lineman or linebacker of the year.

Both Moffitt and Selvie are the first Bulls to be named semifinalists in each award.

BULLS FAN: USF alum Mark Consuelos, an actor who is married to Kelly Ripa ("Live With Regis And Kelly") attended his first Bulls football game.

"We didn't have a team when I went there," said Consuelos, a former Bloomingdale High soccer player who attended Notre Dame for two years before transferring to hometown USF. "I went to the tailgate party and saw people I haven't seen since high school. This is great."
